Practical Self Defense Products and Safety Strategies for Seniors
Hobbies, Karl Edmunds, Security - Home and Personal, SENIOR PRODUCTS |
In the mean time, there are some practical tips and tricks every senior can do to prevent or protect ourselves in a dangerous situation. Like it or not, we seniors are fast becoming the largest demographic category in our society. It only stands to reason we will be a primary target for some bad people.
Why you ask?
Because we seniors are often perceived to be weaker, sometimes less aware of our surroundings-we live in the moment-and we often carry more money around than the average kid on the street.
Level the Playing Field
First, do your best to stay in shape with a consistent fitness program. For seniors, I think Yoga is one of the best solutions to physical fitness.
Second stay alert. If possible always park in a light area and park close to public activity. As you do your activities, pay attention to people that don’t seem to belong, unusual behavior, strange cars and other circumstances. Listen to your gut. It usually is smarter about these things than your intellect.
Finally, you may be living in a neighborhood that has deteriorated over the years and is no longer as safe as before. You may want to consider some products that can give you an edge in bad situations. But any products suggested here should be used as the last resort. Always avoid or flee from danger first. If an escape is impossible then consider the following:
- Multi Function Stun Guns-These devices can do a lot. You have an alarm, a flashlight and the ability to disable the stun gun, if necessary so it can’t be used against you. Stun guns are not lawful in every state so do your homework before you buy.
- Self Defense Training-Learn basic self defense techniques from your own home. You don’t need superior strength to get out of a bad situation if you know what to do. This training is inexpensive but can be lifesaving.
- Personal Alarms-Nothing annoys people with bad intentions more than loud noise. Personal alarms are very loud and low cost but can attract attention for quite a distance.
- Defensive Sprays-These effective sprays can allow you to defend yourself from as much as 15 or more feet away and a direct hit to an attacker can put him or her out of business for 20 to 30 minutes.
These products coupled with personal preparedness will protect you from the vast majority of attacks. Do something today about personal safety. You will feel more confident in every situation and diminish the potential for an attack in the first place.
