National Women's Health Week

For some senior women, rising to meet personal challenges is easy.  A decision is made and the challenge is met.  But for other women personal challenges are hijacked by internal thinking that stops them cold.  And to gain traction some form of outside motivation is needed.  Well get ready!

Coming in May a weeklong health confab will begin for women.  From May 10th to the 16th, the Office of Women’s Health (OWH) of the Department of Health and Human Services has declared National Women’s Health Week. During the entire week women of all ages are encouraged to make their personal health a top priority.

Women are challenged by the theme “It’s Your Time,” to take personal action and find simple but effective ways to live longer, improve overall health and discover a happier life. And to live healthier and happier, some core first step recommendations are:

  • Making time for 2 ½ hours of personally selected moderate physical activities. If you are the type to just want to get it done then do 11/4 hours of vigorous activity… or do a combination.  Do what works for you, but commit to do something and keep it up.
  • Starting to eat better. Identify and eliminate your worst eating habits.
  • Setting appointments to get a health check up and taking key preventive screenings.
  • Facing your high risk behaviors head on and STOP or CHANGE them. No more smoking, less alcohol, improving your car safety habits, e.g. less cell phone use while driving and fastening seat belts every time you are in the car.
  • Investing in your emotional well being by getting enough sleep, finding a counselor to discuss personal or family issues, learning to meditate to reduce stress or beginning a yoga class.
  • During this important week, commit to changes that will extend beyond the week.  Change the way you think about health and your life will change.  We recommend that you download a free fabulous PDF we discovered that is helping thousand of seniors … Change Your Mind-Change Your Life CLICK HERE.
  • The challenge for every woman is to discover within your self the motivation to stay actively engaged every single day of the year. Set personal goals, reward yourself for staying on track and find friends to declare your intentions and share the journey to a healthier and happier life.
